Fifteen Young Professionals Elected to SHRM Young Professional Advisory Council

Jan 8, 2014

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Fifteen young professionals were elected to serve on the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) highly selective Young Professional Advisory Council (YPAC) for a one-year term, beginning on Jan. 1, 2014.

SHRM received 328 applications for only 15 spots on the Council. Of those chosen, several work for Fortune 500 companies such as McDonald’s, Honda, Kraft Foods and Microsoft.

The role of the Council is to advocate for SHRM’s Young Professional members (those under age 35) and provide guidance to SHRM for attracting and retaining non-member young professionals.

"Those selected for this volunteer appointment are a highly impressive group with diverse experience in the Human Resources profession,” said Tara Fournier, PHR, manager of member engagement at SHRM. “They represent the future of our profession and as members of this council, serve as ambassadors for the needs of this important group of members.”

During the course of their appointment these young professionals will help to:

  • Provide feedback to SHRM regarding potential and existing services for young professional members; Strategize ways to recruit new young professional members; Assist with transitioning student members to young professional members;
  • Encourage recognition of young professional programs led by chapter and state council affiliates;
  • Coordinate the establishment and support of young professional activities.
