Six colleges from five states take home prizes for best division presentations
ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The 2015 Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Student Case Competitions, held in March and April, drew 76 universities across the United States.
Six universities—two from each division (West, East and Central)—took home first place. The competition was broken into undergraduate and graduate categories with one winner from each sector.
The goal of the competition was to provide a realistic job preview for students with an interest in the HR field. During the competition, SHRM presented each team with a different HR challenge covering topics, such as management practices, staffing and recruiting, compensation and benefits, and labor relations. Teams had to determine a solution, submit an executive summary, which was judged virtually, and deliver an oral presentation to a panel of judges onsite at the event.
Winning teams and their advisors received free registrations to SHRM’s Annual Conference & Exposition held June 28–July 1 in Las Vegas and $2,500 in travel reimbursement.
“The SHRM Student Case Competitions & Career Summits are a great way for our student attendees to apply classroom learning to real world human resource scenarios,” said Elissa O’Brien, SHRM-SCP, vice president of membership at SHRM. “In addition, students have the opportunity to network with fellow attendees from other universities, meet with career mentors and showcase their knowledge to HR practitioners. It’s a great way to support our student members as aspiring HR professionals and the future of our profession.”

East Division, Baltimore–March 20-21
Central Division, Covington, Ky.–April 14-15
