University of Virginia Professor Scott A. Snell chosen as newest board member

​ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Scott A. Snell, Ph.D., research chair in business administration at the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business, was elected as a new member of HR People + Strategy’s (HRPS’s) Board of Directors for 2017

His four-year term began January 1 and will continue through December 2020. 

At the Darden Graduate School of Business, Snell teaches classes on leadership, developing organizational capability and human capital consulting. His research focuses on HR and the ways in which organizations generate, transfer and integrate new knowledge for competitive advantage. He is the co-author of four books and has been published in numerous journals. Snell is an award-winning researcher and is listed among the top 100 most-cited authors in scholarly journals of management. 

He has served on several boards, including those of the Strategic Management Society’s Human Resource Capital Group, the SHRM Foundation, and the Academy of Management’s Human Resources Division, among others. He has also worked with high-profile companies such as AstraZeneca, Deutsche Telekom, Heineken and Shell to strategize investments in talent.

Formerly, Snell was the senior associate dean for executive education at the University of Virginia. Prior to joining the university’s faculty in 2007, he was a professor and director of executive education at Cornell University’s Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies and a professor of management in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University. 

He earned his MBA and Ph.D. in business administration from Michigan State University.
