SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is opening an office in California this month, dedicated to serving SHRM members and the HR profession in the state.
The office — located blocks from the state capitol at 980 9th St. in Sacramento — will officially open Wednesday, April 23, on the eve of the California SHRM State Council (CalSHRM)
Legislative & HR Conference.
“HR professionals have asked for help in responding to increasingly complex workplace law in California, and SHRM has answered with new resources, tools and advocacy,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson. “There’s no better place to support California HR than from the state capital, where the state’s employment laws originate.”
SHRM has added two staff members to support its work in California: Jon Decoteau, membership engagement divisional director and California field leader, and Jason Gabhart, California state government affairs advisor. From Sacramento, they will work closely with CalSHRM and 17 local SHRM chapters throughout the state by providing professional development and local networking on issues that affect HR.
“Together,” Jackson said, “we will respond to the needs of HR professionals doing business in California. We are well positioned to advocate on behalf of HR’s unique interests.”
SHRM’s new member benefits for those doing business in California include
state-specific toolkits and how-to guides, a monthly California employment law e-newsletter, personalized assistance from a California-certified advisor, and webcasts on HR trends and hot topics.
SHRM, the world’s largest HR association, is headquartered in suburban Washington, D.C., with subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates.
