ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Lynn Shotwell, executive director of the Council for Global Immigration (CFGI), and Mike Aitken, senior vice president of government affairs for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), released the following statement regarding the upcoming debate and vote on the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018.
“As Congress works to address Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and border security, we encourage ongoing work for a long overdue bipartisan solution. Ultimately, the solution must strengthen our economy and improve the security of our immigration system.
“CFGI and SHRM support fair, innovative and competitive immigration solutions that build the future workforce, including solutions that address long green-card backlogs and do not cut legal immigration. With ultra-low unemployment, more jobs openings than unemployed individuals and a severe skills gap, Congress must enact a solution for DACA recipients and DACA eligible individuals who are educated in the United States, working here and serving in our military.
Congress and the administration should work swiftly toward solutions to provide certainty for men, women and families who contribute to our nation’s economy, universities and communities.”
