HR Certification Institute Certifies 1,000th HR Professional
Silver Spring, Md.–based HR executive becomes milestone member
Alexandria, Va. –The HR Certification Institute, an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management, has certified its 1,000th HR professional with the global human resource professional (GPHR) credential.
The certificant, Anthony Amato, is the vice president of global benefits for Discovery Communications, based in Silver Spring, Md. His previous experience includes senior-level HR positions with Hard Rock Cafe International, The Rank Group Plc., and Aetna Life & Casualty.
“Working for the world's leading nonfiction media company means that applying an international perspective is essential to my global responsibilities,” said Amato. “The GPHR certification has enhanced my perspective of how different cultures can affect human resources programs, policies and strategy.”
Amato is an expert in HR issues regarding global mobility, benefits, compensation, and human resource information systems. During his tenure at Discovery, he has launched global initiatives addressing these issues.
“Executives and HR managers from global organziations are increasingly turning to the GPHR certification because it provides a level of assurance those who are certified are able to speak a common HR language and have a proven understanding of global HR practices,” said Mary E. Power, CAE, executive director of the HR Certification Institute.
The HR Certification Institute awards three core credentials: PHR, SPHR, GPHR. They are acronyms, respectively, for Professional in Human Resources, Senior Professional in Human Resources, Global Professional in Human Resources.
The HR Certification Institute holds accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for demonstrating compliance with the NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. NCCA is the accrediting body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance.
