ALEXANDRIA, Va. — HR People & Strategy (HRPS) today announced that its Board of Directors has named four human resource and business executives to lead its Executive Committee. The officers and their roles are:
• Edie Goldberg, Ph.D., president & founder of E.L. Goldberg and Associates, serving as Chair;
• Richard M. Vosburgh, Ph.D., senior vice president and chief human resources officer for KEMET Electronics Corporation, serving as Vice Chair;
• Simon King, global vice president, human resources research and development for Bristol-Myers Squibb, serving as Treasurer; and;
• Catherine H. (Cathy) Malear, senior vice president and chief human resource officer at UniGroup, Inc., serving as Secretary.
The Executive Committee’s term began Sept. 17, 2013. The four Executive Committee members also serve on the full 16-member HRPS Board of Directors, which sets broad policies and strategic direction and provides fiduciary oversight for the HRPS membership.
In July, HRPS announced a strategic affiliation with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR association.
“We are honored to have a group of accomplished HR professionals and business leaders serve on the Executive Committee at an exciting time in our history,” said HRPS Board Chair Goldberg. “We have an exceptionally talented group of HR leaders volunteering their time for the HRPS Board. They provide guidance and expertise to enhance the HRPS membership experience and to advance the efforts of the HR profession. We are all very excited about the future of HRPS.”
Edie Goldberg, Ph.D., is the founder of E.L. Goldberg and Associates based in Menlo Park, Calif., where she has specialized in talent management and organizational development for over 25 years. She focuses her practice on designing HR programs and processes to attract, engage and retain employees. Before starting her own company, Dr. Goldberg worked for Towers Perrin as the global thought leader in learning and development, career management, and succession planning and the Asia-Pacific liaison for the Human Capital Management practice. Dr. Goldberg has published many articles and presented at numerous professional conference in the areas of building management capability, performance management, career management, competency modeling, organizational change, and job analysis. She earned her Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Albany, State University of New York, and her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from San Diego State University.
Richard M. Vosburgh, Ph.D., is senior vice president and chief human resources officer for KEMET Electronics Corporation in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Dr. Vosburgh has held global positions living and working in Singapore and Germany. He has held senior HR leadership positions at a number of Fortune 500 companies, including MGM Resorts International, Compaq, HP, Campbell Soup Company, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, PepsiCo and The Gallup Organization. He has authored numerous journal articles and two books. An active HRPS member, Dr. Vosburgh served four years on the Board of Directors and five years as the volunteer Executive Editor for the quarterly Human Resource Planning journal. Dr. Vosburgh was on the Board of Directors of HP’s Federal LLC, chairing the Compensation Committee, and on the Advisory Board for the University of Southern California’s Center for Effective Organizations. He earned his Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of South Florida.
Simon King is a senior HR leader with more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He currently is global vice president for human resources research and development at Bristol-Myers Squibb. King started his career studying genetics at the University of Edinburgh before starting work in the R&D function of ICI Pharmaceuticals as a systems analyst. It was during this time that he developed his passion for developing people and organizations and made the transition from R&D to human resources. King worked for AstraZeneca for 26 years in increasingly senior HR roles. He also regularly guest lectures at Cornell University.
Catherine H. Malear is senior vice president and chief human resources officer at UniGroup, Inc., the parent of specialized transportation companies United Van Lines, LLC, and Mayflower Transit, LLC, as well as related subsidiaries. In her role, Malear is responsible for human resources, corporate responsibility and sustainability, and support services. She has more than 30 years of HR and administrative services experience. Previously, Malear was executive vice president of human resources at Huntington Bancshares and senior vice president of human resources of the Americas at ING, the Dutch financial services company. Before that, Malear was responsible for all aspects of human resources at GE and Fortune 50 companies in technology and manufacturing businesses. An active HRPS member, Malear is a past president of the St. Louis HRPS Affiliate. She is a founding member and vice president of the board of the St. Louis Curling Club, and has been a member of many volunteer boards and committees, including United Way, Urban League, and Red Cross. She earned her master’s degree in communications and business at Southern Illinois University.
