Starwood Hotels & Resorts Executive Jeffrey M. Cava Elected to SHRM Board of Directors
Alexandria, Va., – The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has elected Greenwich, Connecticut resident Jeffrey M. Cava to a one-year term as director-at-large on the SHRM board of directors.
Cava is the executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc., one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with more than 1,000 hotels in approximately 100 countries, on six continents with approximately 150,000 employees at its owned and managed properties.
“We are privileged to have Jeff join the SHRM board of directors,” said SHRM President and CEO Laurence G. O’Neil.“Jeff brings a tremendous wealth of business, government, HR and strategic leadership experience to the Society. He will be a strong asset to the board and will provide key insight to SHRM as we implement ournew five-year strategic plan.”
After holding chief human resources officerpositions at Wendy's International, Inc., Nike Inc., and executive level positions at The Walt Disney Company and ITT Sheraton Corp., Cava joined Starwood Hotels and Resorts in May 2008. During his years of experience across all HR disciplines, he developed expertise in the fields of global compensation strategy, U.S.-based benefits design, competency model development, leadership development, and executive selection.
“The role of human resources, both as a function and a body of knowledge as we envision it in the future, may indeed be the next ‘transformational breakthrough’ in fashioning global business strategy,” said Jeffrey Cava. “The Society for Human Resource Management has both an advocate and leadership role to play in defining that preferred future.”
Cava earned both a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from San Diego State University.
