SHRM Foundation Elects New Board Chair

Elizabeth “Betsy” Larson chosen as newest board chair

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Elizabeth “Betsy” Larson, a senior human resource leader, was elected as the new chair of the SHRM Foundation’s 2017 board of directors

Her two-year term began Jan. 1 and will continue through December 2018. Larson’s primary roles as SHRM Foundation board chair will be to lead the fiduciary oversight of the SHRM Foundation, provide leadership for other officers and board members, lead the development and maintenance of the SHRM Foundation strategy, act as a spokesperson, and play an important role in monitoring and evaluating organizational performance and effectiveness.

Larson has over 20 years of human resource experience. She has worked on short- and long-term incentive plans and consulting practice, performance management, and other compensation operations.

She served as vice president of compensation at MassMutual Financial Group from 2013 to 2016 and before that served as assistant vice president of compensation. Prior to joining MassMutual, she worked as a senior compensation consultant at Cigna.

Larson received her master’s degree in public administration with a focus in labor relations and her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. 

“Betsy was chosen by her peers on the SHRM Foundation board because of her leadership skills and devotion to the strategy of the SHRM Foundation,” said Mark Schmit, executive director of the SHRM Foundation. “She has had a strong influence on the direction of the SHRM Foundation during her tenure, and the board is confident in her ability to lead us to new heights.” 

She has been a Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) member since 1994 and is the past state director for the Kentucky SHRM State Council. She has served on the SHRM Foundation board since 2012.
