SHRM Appoints Shonna Waters Vice President of Research

ALEXANDRIA, Va.  — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has named Shonna Waters, Ph.D., CLC, vice president of research.

Waters, who has more than 16 years of experience in applied research and human capital consulting, joins SHRM after serving as a technical leader in human resources within the federal government.

Her appointment was effective Sept. 19.

SHRM Research provides thought leadership on career guidance, professional development, day-to-day HR operations and the future of HR. It produces survey reports about the workplace, including the often-cited annual Employee Benefits research report and Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement research report, along with labor market and benchmarking data. SHRM Research also offers Customized Research Services and an Employee Engagement & Job Satisfaction Survey Service.

Previously, Waters was a senior scientist at the Human Resources Research Organization and a research associate at the Personnel Decisions Research Institute.

Waters holds a Ph.D. in industrial organizational psychology from the University of Minnesota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Maryland and a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University's Institute for Transformational Leadership.

She is a part-time faculty member at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies and was an adjunct faculty member of The George Washington University, teaching graduate courses in HR management/development.

A member of SHRM, she also is a member of the Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology, the American Psychological Association and the Personnel Testing Council of Metropolitan Washington. Her writing has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Psychological Bulletin, Personnel Psychology and I-O Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice.
