Human resource association recognized by Washingtonian magazine
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) was honored by
The Washingtonian magazine as one of its 50 Great Places to Work.
The professional association and its affiliates employ more than 400 at an Old Town Alexandria headquarters and offices in China, India and the United Arab Emirates.
“As the world’s largest association for human resource management, we are thrilled to be named one of the Washington area’s top employers,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, SHRM’s president and CEO. “SHRM educates HR professionals and employers on workplace best practices. So we are gratified for the recognition that SHRM ‘walks the talk.’ ”
SHRM was chosen by a panel of magazine editors from among 200 Washington-area companies, based on generous pay and benefits, challenging and interesting work, great work/life balance, opportunities to learn and grow, financial stability, commitment to charity and community, and the recognition and respect given to employees. Information from more than 13,000 employee surveys weighed heavily in the final decision.
Four generations of workers are employed by SHRM, which has an employee turnover rate lower than many organizations. SHRM offers exceptional benefits that help meet the interests and needs of employees and the association’s business objectives, including:
The magazine noted that SHRM offers a pension plan and generous tuition assistance. "Employees also rave about the healthy work/life balance," it said.
This is SHRM’s second designation as a Great Place to Work. It also was recognized by
The Washingtonian in 2003.
SHRM and other 2013 winners, which include private employers, nonprofits and government agencies, are featured in the December edition of the magazine.
