The 2 ½-day conference will feature more than 30 sessions designed to bring the socio-cultural insights and tools executives, managers, and HR professionals need in managing teams and workplace diversity and inclusion (d&i) initiatives.

Sessions include:

  • How to Address Personality Diversity and Prejudice in the Workplace”; “How to Create Harmony in a Polarized Society”; “Developing Culturally Competent Women Leaders”; “Micro Inequity: Power of the Small”; “Understanding the Business Impact of Workplace Bullying"; and
  • Discussion of must-have d&i competencies; new and best practices for managing related initiatives; and how to work with executives whose approval will sustain d&i efforts.

Scheduled to speak during the concurrent sessions are experts representing: Facebook, Weyerhaeuser, Girl Scouts of the USA, Cook Ross Inc., Berklee College of Music, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, and leading d&i consultancies from the United States and Canada.

Keynote speakers include Nobel Peace Prize Winner Leymag Gbowee of Liberia.

Immediately following the d&i conference with be the 1 ½-day workflex conference jointly produced by SHRM and the Families and Work Institute (FWI). Twitter: #workflex12. The SHRM-FWI workflex conference will feature seven sessions and a press briefing: 12:30 p.m.-1:15 p.m. CDT on Oct. 24, Michigan Room.The press briefing is also available by conference call. Reporters attending the press briefing will hear from experts: Ellen Galinsky, president of FWI; Ken Matos, senior director of employment research and practice at FWI; Shirley Davis, vice president of SHRM’s diversity and inclusion initiatives; Lisa Horn, senior government relations advisor for SHRM; and Brad Fitch, CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation.

The press briefing will focus on FWI’s “Essential Guide to Effective and Flexible Workplaces” and the “2013 Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work.” Also, SHRM and the Congressional Management Foundation will release the first of three research projects about Congress—“Life in Congress: Aligning Work and Life in the U.S. House and Senate.”
