SHRM Gathers Global Business Leaders in Toronto to Address World Wide Workforce Trends

March 2009 meeting will address global HR in an economic crisis, change management, and more

Alexandria, Va. – The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will hold its 32ndGlobal Conference & Exposition from March 30 to April 1 in Toronto, Ontario at The Fairmont Royal York hotel.

More than 500 senior-level HR professionals and business leaders from around the world have been invited to discuss the most pressing global workforce issues and recommend solutions to ensure that companies survive the current economic standstill.

“The economic crisis in the U.S. has rapidly spread around the globe, underscoring the immediacy and connectedness that is global business today,” said Brian J. Glade, SHRM’s vice president of international programs. “SHRM’s Global Conference brings together HR professionals and other business leaders to discuss the issues and solutions for best managing human capital concerns from headquarters to subsidiary.”

Conference attendees will hear from internationally acclaimed experts including: Fareed Zakaria, host of the CNN show “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” editor of Newsweek International, and author of The Post-American World, a New York Times bestseller; andbestselling author Amy Chua, the John M. Duff, Jr. Professor of Law at Yale Law School and author of Day of Empire: How Hyperpowers Rise to Global Dominance—and Why They Fall.

The keynoter lineup also features Ronan Tynan, a former member of the Irish Tenors, physician, and gold medal winner in the Paralympics.

SHRM’s global conference will focus on:

Employment law for multinational companies;

  • Employment legislation issues in the European Union;
  • Corporate social responsibility and sustainability in global organizations;
  • Global immigration trends;
  • Strategic workforce planning; and
  • Creating a globally adaptive organization and corporate culture.

A pre-conference workshop, Driving Global/Local Synergy Through HR Strategy: How To Generate Engagement from Key Stakeholders Worldwide,” will help attendees to develop an HR strategy that engages local executives and aligns with global organization goals. Another pre-conference seminar will address “Rightsizing in Europe,” which will provide tools and techniques for restructuring operations in European countries.
