Alexandria, Va. – The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has appointed G. “Ravi” Ravindran as managing director of the society’s subsidiary company in India, Strategic Human Resource Management India Private Limited (SHRMI). The society is the leading voice of the human resource profession, representing the interests of more than 245,000 professional and student members from around the world.
“We look forward to Ravi’s strategic insight and operational leadership as we expand our commitment to the India market and the HR profession there,” said Brian J. Glade, SPHR, GPHR, who is SHRM’s vice president of international programs.
“Building on the solid foundation established by his predecessor, Nina Woodard, SPHR, GPHR, he will help us deliver on new opportunities for growth and impact within the HR community. We are excited to have him leading our India team."
Ravindran will be responsible for managing and expanding all activities and business operations of SHRMI, including its relationships with clients, business partners and employees. He will also serve on the group’s board of directors.
A key challenge is establishing partnerships with educational institutions, government and policy makers, and creating a brand identity for SHRMI as the premier association for HR professionals in India.
“After 30 years as a HR professional, I am eager to support and advance the profession across the Indian landscape,” Ravindran said. “Globalization has reinforced the importance of our expertise, and I am looking forward to supporting SHRM's impressive commitment to international expansion.”
In addition to independent consulting work, Ravindran has held chief HR positions and had other executive responsibilities with some of the largest organizations in India, including Bharti Televentures, Ernst & Young, PepsiCo Foods, Lipton Unilever, and Blue Dart Express. Most recently, he was senior vice president and head of global HR for Covansys Inc.
Ravindran holds an M.A. from the Tata Institute for Social Sciences (TISS), one of the top HR educational institutions in India. He also holds a B.S. in education from the University of Mysore.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 245,000 members in over 130 countries, the Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the U.S. and subsidiary offices in China and India. Visit SHRM at
