SHRM Strategy and Foundation Thought Leaders Events are Oct 4-7 in Chicago
Executives to share strategic thinking on hiring, corporate culture and managing business risk

Alexandria, Va., Sept. 13, 2011 — The Society for Human Resource Management and the SHRM Foundation will host two October events that will give HR executives and other business leaders opportunities to share information on strategy, innovation and organizational culture.

WHAT: SHRM Foundation Thought Leaders Retreat, Oct. 4-5; and SHRM Strategy Conference, Oct. 5-7.

WHERE: The Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, 200 North Columbus Drive, Chicago, Ill., 60601. The Embassy Room will serve as a pressroom from Oct. 5-7.

DETAILS:

  • SHRM Foundation Thought Leaders Retreat: Attended by about 100 top-level HR executives and CEOs, the retreat will explore HR’s role in managing business risk. Speakers include Rick Marini, CEO of BranchOut, speaking about social media; and Ann Rhoades, president of People Ink, speaking about creating enviable cultures. Panel discussion topics include driving innovation and managing global business risk.
  • Strategy Conference: Keynote speakers include Jeffrey Garten, former undersecretary of commerce and professor at the Yale School of Management, speaking about the company of the future; and Don Tapscott, author and authority on the impact of technology, speaking about innovation, marketing and talent. Seventeen concurrent sessions include “Crafting a Strategy to Reduce Health Benefits Costs” and “Unifying Corporate Cultures Post-Acquisition.”

Special press availability: At 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Embassy Room of the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Mark Schmit, director of SHRM research, will provide highlights from the 2011 Job Satisfaction Survey. The full survey will be released later in October.

Interview opportunities: Many speakers are available for interviews, including the winner of the Michael R. Losey Human Resource Research Award, a $50,000 prize given annually to further the field of human resource management. The winner will be named Oct. 5.
