Two New Members Elected to 2009 SHRM Board of Directors

Alexandria, Va. – The membership of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has elected two new members to serve on the 2009 SHRM Board of Directors: James A. Kaitz of Bethesda, Maryland and Steven A. Jarrett of Bowie, Maryland.

The Society for Human Resource Management is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 250,000 individual members, the Society’s mission is both to serve human resource management professionals and to advance the profession.

James A. Kaitz
Currently, Kaitz is President and CEO of the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) and oversees the operations of an association that represents more than 14,000 treasury and financial professionals throughout the United States.

Prior to joining AFP, Kaitz served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Financial Executives Institute (FEI), a professional association of 14,000 senior financial executives representing 8,000 companies in the United States. Kaitz joined FEI in 1988 as the Vice President of Government Relations.

Kaitz’s former roles include Manager, Trade and Business Affairs in Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s Washington office. He served as Director of Governmental Relations for the Scientific Apparatus Makers Association and joined FEI’s Washington office in 1983 from Capitol Hill. From 1978 to 1982, he was a Legislative Assistant to the Congressman James Shannon (D-MA).

Kaitz is a graduate of Georgetown University.

Steven A. Jarrett
Currently, Jarrett is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), a position he has held since June 2007. Based in Washington, D.C., he and his team provide HR support to executives, managers and employees across the country.

Before joining FINRA, Jarrett served as Vice President of Human Resources for IBM’s Integrated Technology Delivery unit. He also held several executive positions within the company.

A member of SHRM, Jarrett brings 27 years of human resource management experience to his new SHRM Board position, and has been formally recognized on a number of occasions for his efforts.

Committed to serving his community, Jarrett currently serves as a member of the National Advisory Board for the National Society of Black Engineers. He is also a Visiting Professor with the National Urban League’s Black Executive Exchange Program.

His previous leadership roles include serving in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization where he was named Big Brother of the Year. Jarrett also served on the Detroit Area Advisory Board for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and on the Board for United Way Community Services of Greater Detroit. He also served as a Trustee for the Union Baptist Church in Stamford, Connecticut.

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jarrett is a Life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Jarrett earned a B.S. in Marketing from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.​
