“Veterans’ preference legislation like that embodied in AB 1383 has been a key focus of SHRM members on the state level since Washington SHRM and Arkansas SHRM led the way in their states advocating for this legislation back in 2011 and 2013,” said Jason Gabhart, SHRM California state government affairs advisor. “For years, SHRM has worked closely with the Obama administration and numerous veteran organizations to enhance employment opportunities for our veterans, and it will continue to do so in the future.”
“We applaud the members of the Assembly Employment & Labor Committee on their unanimous passing of bill AB 1383 and are equally delighted to learn today, that the bill has also passed the appropriations committee,” said Mike Letizia, CalSHRM state director. “CalSHRM is extremely proud to sponsor and support AB 1383. We send our heart-felt thanks to Assemblyman Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) for his efforts in assisting returning military service heroes with their transition back to private-sector employment. It has been an honor and privilege to work with him in these efforts. CalSHRM now looks to advocating the HR voice for prompt consideration of AB 1383 in the California Senate.”
