SHRM Workshop on Hiring of Veterans Connects Experts, HR Professionals

MEDIA ADVISORY: A special workshop on strategies to hire and retain military veterans in the civilian workplace will bring together experts on the issue and HR professionals. Attend the workshop to gain insights on addressing the challenges faced by both employers and veterans as veterans transition to the civilian workforce. “Defining Strategies for Military Talent Engagement” will kick off SHRM’s Annual Conference and Exposition on June 26 in Las Vegas. Details: The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which is committed to recruiting and retaining veterans in the civilian workplace, will bring together experts to educate HR professionals on strategies to assist employers and support military families.

F. Dawn Halfaker, retired captain and CEO of Halfaker Associates in Arlington, Va., will be the keynote speaker. She commanded a military police platoon in Iraq and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star after being wounded during a combat patrol near Baghdad in 2004.

Other speakers are:

  • “Creating and Working Your Military Inclusiveness Strategy” with Sherrill Curtis of the Tip of the Arrow Foundation and principal of Curtis Consulting Group in East Rutherford, N.J.
  • “A Fresh Perspective from Job Design to Outreach, Interviews and On-the-Job Accommodations” with Lisa Rosser, military hiring expert, The value of a Veteran, Herndon, Va., and Hannah Rudstam of the Disability Business Technical Assistance Center at Cornell University.
  • “Creating Inclusive Workplace Strategies to Retain Veterans, Reservists and Military-Connected Talent” with Emily King of Military Transitions in Alexandria, Va., and Chris Galey, director of talent acquisition at Intuit Inc. of San Jose, Calif.
