World’s Largest HR Association Reaches Quarter Million Members
New York HR executive becomes milestone member
Alexandria, Va. –The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR organization, has registered its 250,000th member ─ Kristin M. Sampson, an HR executive with more than 20 years of experience in international business.
Sampson is the director of global HR services for Providium, a consulting firm and division of Gallagher Benefit Services Inc., in New York. Her previous experience includes developing and managing the international relocation and global mobility program for Bausch & Lomb. Sampson’s career has enabled her to develop a comprehensive knowledge of global human resources issues, such as strategic planning, policy management, compensation, benefits, and tax compliance.
“As SHRM expands its presence around the globe, it is fitting that our 250,000th member is a global HR professional,” said Pam Green, SHRM’s chief membership officer. “Kristin represents the future of HR and SHRM.”
Sampson’s positive experiences attending local chapter meetings and the society’s Global Conference and Exposition led her to eventually join SHRM. An active public speaker on HR issues, she decided that being part of the industry’s leading organization would allow her to network with colleagues around the globe.
“I really enjoy working with people, and I really enjoy analyzing data,” said Sampson. “It’s a great combination.”
SHRM was founded in 1948 as the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA) and began with just 28 members. By its 50th Anniversary in 1998, SHRM celebrated a milestone of more than 90,000 professional members. In the last 10 years, SHRM has more than doubled its membership. In 2005, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce classified SHRM as one of the 100 fastest growing U.S. associations and one of 25 largest.
