SHRM's HR Young Professionals group helps create a foundation for SHRM's professional members age 30 and building a community for the next generation of HR leadership through social media and networking activities.  There are 15 Young Professional Advisory Council members who work on several YP initiatives and provide feedback to SHRM.  Initiatives include Social Media, YP Engagement, and YP Membership.  Members are volunteers who go through an application process.  Watch this site as applications will open soon.


Aaron Abel

Aaron Abell is an accomplished global Human Resources professional, analyst, and business leader. After staring his career in an HR generalist/analyst capacity, he quickly gained success in various other aspects of Human Resources. He helped develop and led enterprise-recruiting efforts, improving results while reducing costs and lead times through the implementation of lean strategies and new technologies. These achievements were not only recognized internally at Hillenbrand, but also externally – sharing his story and successes at the fall ERE Expo. 

After several years building experience in Human Resources, Abell gained Merger and Acquisition experience working on the Corporate Strategy Team – assisting with due diligence efforts for the $545 million purchase of Germany-based Coperion Capital GmbH. Following this experience, Abell joined the Lean Business team – leading global Lean training and development activities to optimize business performance of current and future companies. Today, Abell oversees corporate talent management for Tronox Alkali in Philadelphia.

Jillian Caswell joined Alaska Executive Search, Inc. (AES) in 2010, and she has been providing remarkable service quality to her clients since then. After completing her BA degree from the University of Alaska, Southeast in Psychology and Sociology, she continued to progress her career with AES as an Associate Recruiter in the Executive Search Division. After a year of mentorship with veteran Senior Executive Search Consultants, Caswell joined our Technology & Engineering Division to round out her recruitment experience before bringing her knowledge and recruitment capabilities to lead the Office Staffing Division as Division Manager.

Caswell offers her clients a solid understanding of the Anchorage and Alaska labor market. Her expertise in online recruitment and networking, coupled with her social media savvy enhances her ability to effectively leverage our vast database of professionals and her ability to expediently source, prescreen and place candidates. As AES expands upon its business legacy of strong client and candidate relationships in the Alaska community, Jillian will continue to work closely with clients to identify their staffing needs and requirements.


Daniel Cross

Dan Cross is particularly passionate about two things - basketball and human resources. Unfortunately, Dan was never drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) so he embraced a career in human resources instead. Cross is currently a Sr. HR Consultant at Capital One, a U.S.-based financial services company specializing in credit cards, home & auto loans, and retail & direct banking products. In this role, Cross partners strategically with internal business leaders and associates to integrate effective HR processes, programs, and practices into their daily operations.

Cross holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, where he served as President of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter. Upon graduation, he joined the inaugural class of the Human Resources Rotation Program at Capital One, a 2.5-year leadership development program that develops skills through immersion in multiple HR disciplines. Cross also recently earned his Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certifications.

An advocate for disability employment, Cross regularly volunteers as a vocational rehabilitation specialist and is a basketball and track & field coach for Special Olympics Delaware (SODE). Ashley Eckard

Ashley Eckard brings 8 years of Human Resources experience to YPAC, she has held a several different HR roles since starting her career with responsibilities including employee relations, leadership development, compliance research, workers' compensation, insurance, and recruitment. She has served as a HR contact for a large healthcare company, serving as the main point of contact for employees concerning recruitment, on-boarding, payroll, benefits administration and compliance. She has prided herself in providing the highest level of customer service to promote, engage, and maintain the employee workforce.

In 2012 she took on her first leadership role within Human Resources as the Director of Human Resources for a privately owned and operated Long Term and Skilled Nursing facility. She worked directly with the leadership team on strategic and operational initiatives to move the business and the workforce forward. Some of her other duties included; employee relations, compliance, training/development, coaching, recruiting, and oversight of payroll administration. Working directly with staff energizes her, and she has a deeper understanding of how important human resources is to an organization.

In 2015 Eckard took on her most challenging role to date with a small Pharmaceutical Communications Agency in West Chester, Pennsylvanian as Director of Human Resources. In this new role, Eckard is building the Human Resources functions from the ground up. She is working directly with the C-suite leadership to develop best practice policies and producers that will support the workforce and grow the business. Some of her other duties include managing the recruitment and hiring process, identifying and implementing professional/leadership development and training programs, optimizes employee relations and employee engagement.

Eckard is an active member of Delaware Society for Human Resources Management (DESHRM) and currently, sits on the Board of Directors as the Communications and Public Relations Chair. Eckard has taught Human Resources Management at the college level, and has served on several different Boards in the community because of her belief in the power of giving back to the healthcare industry and the HR profession. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, traveling and showing horses.

Kirsten Jarrell is the Human Resources Generalist for FDH Velocitel supporting the Raleigh Region. In this role, she sees the recruitment process from beginning to end, assists with Total Rewards, handles employee relations issues, and supports the rollout and ongoing maintenance of HR Policies and Procedures.

As an “army brat”, Jarrell moved all over the world as a child, but she calls Fayetteville, NC her hometown. Jarrell brings five years of Human Resources experience, mainly in Total Rewards and Recruiting. She is known for her ability to empathize with employees day to day issues and help employees truly understand their Total Reward Package. Jarrell studied Human Resources and Business at William Peace University (formerly Peace College) and received her Bachelors in 2011. She is now studying Human Resources Development at the University of Texas at Tyler and will graduate in 2017 with her Masters. 

In addition to her duties as a Human Resources Generalist with FDH Velocitel, Jarrell volunteers with her local SHRM chapter, Raleigh-Wake Human Resources Management Association. She is the Leader of the local Young Professionals group and a member of the Programs Team. She obtained her Certified Benefit Professional (CBP) and Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) through World at Work in 2013 and recently obtained her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification through HRCI this past July. 

Jarrell currently resides in Durham, NC and enjoys traveling, ballet, music, and spending time with the people she loves.


Jessica Gofforth

Jessica Gofforth is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and holds a degree in Business Management, with an emphasis in Human Resources. Gofforth has been very active with SHRM since her early college days. She has held various leadership positions, including President of the student SHRM chapter at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI-SHRM), and College Relations director for the Iowa SHRM State Council. Gofforth is currently the Director of YP Activities for the Iowa SHRM State Council and Chair of the College Relations Committee for her local chapter Tri-State Human Resources Association (TRIHRA). Gofforth was a guest speaker for the 2013 North Central SHRM Student Conference, and has been featured in the SHRM HR Magazine and UNI Alumni Magazine.

Gofforth is currently the HR Manager for Bemis Company, Inc., a Fortune 500 company that specializes in flexible packaging solutions, headquartered in Neenah, WI, where she oversees the site HR team for a plant in Southwest Wisconsin. Gofforth has previous experience in talent acquisition, college relations, leadership development and employee relations in the manufacturing, supply chain & logistics, and aviation & defense industries. 

She resides in Dubuque, IA where she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, as well as being a volunteer and mentor within her community. She’s excited to join the SHRM YPAC team and hopes to use her own experiences and career development to provide opportunities to further develop other young HR professionals!


Courtney Hendricks

Courtney Hendricks is currently serving as an HR department of one at Extension, a staffing firm in Milwaukee, WI. With over three years of HR experience in the manufacturing and engineering sectors, Hendricks had worked with many staffing firms in the past and quickly became familiar with the challenges and opportunities of the industry. Her portfolio is comprised of multiple HR functions--managing full-cycle recruitment efforts, employee relations, benefit and payroll-related issues, and process development.

In her role, Hendricks manages all human resource responsibilities for the company, including internal recruitment, policy and procedure implementation, employee relations, strategic planning, benefits administration, and performance management. Prior to Extension, she worked as an HR intern at Hayes Performance Systems, a manufacturing company in Mequon. After graduating from college, she was promoted to HR Coordinator at Hayes, taking on a much more active role in union employee relations and tactical development as the company underwent an overhaul in executive leadership and strategy deployment in 2014-15. 

Originally from Minnesota, she moved to Milwaukee for college and graduated with a BA in Communication. She serves as co-chair for Metro Milwaukee SHRM on the Young Professionals/Membership committee, and tags herself a fitness and fashion enthusiast, social media junkie, and lover of wine, good coffee and good friends.

Tatiana Hernandez

Tatiana Hernandez is currently a Human Resources Representative at ACCO Engineered Systems, a Mechanical Contractor based in Southern California. In her role, she provides HR support for the corporate office and satellite offices throughout Southern California as well as offices in Nevada. Her duties include talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, employee benefits, leaves of absences, and special projects. In addition to her HR role, she currently serves on two workplace committees; the ESOP Communications Committee and the United Way Committee. One of her favorite committee roles is organizing volunteer and fundraising events for the United Way of Greater Los Angeles (UWGLA) which is a non-profit organization looking to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness in the LA area.

Hernandez attended California State University Northridge (CSUN) and received her Bachelors in Business Management. After a few years of working within the Payroll Department at ACCO, she cultivated her passion for HR. Shortly after, she pursued a certificate in HR Management from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and began working in the HR field.

Hernandez was recently accepted into Pepperdine University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Resources. She is also a member of both SHRM and PIHRA and is currently on the board of directors for PIHRA’s Burbank/Glendale District. She is actively involved in her district serving as the Co-Chair of Membership and the Young Professionals liaison. She is enthusiastic about her new roles and reaching out to young and emerging professionals in her area that are looking to transition into the HR field. She is also excited to be on the SHRM YPAC team and looks forward to working with everyone.

Dan Higham

Dan Higham is an HR Generalist at Time Warner Cable (TWC). As an HR business partner, his primary focus is on employee relations. Higham started with TWC in May 2011. He currently works in Upstate New York at the Company’s Binghamton, NY location.

Higham is an active SHRM volunteer. He served as the Membership Chairperson for CNY SHRM (450+ member local chapter in Syracuse, NY) from 2013-2015. In 2014, he began his service as the Membership Chairperson for STAHR (100+ member local chapter in Binghamton, NY). In 2015, he also accepted the role of New York State SHRM Council Membership Director.

Higham received his B.S. in Human Resource Management from SUNY Oswego. In 2014, he earned his PHR certification and in early 2015 he successfully earned his SHRM-CP. Higham enjoys fishing and playing golf, and just became a first time Uncle in December 2015!

Ashley Leveque

Ashley Leveque is a well-rounded HR young professional with experience ranging from not-for-profits to Fortune 50 global organizations. She is currently a Human Resources Business Partner for Hewlett Packard Enterprise working with leaders to drive the execution of HR and business solutions.Leveque has her B.B.A. in Management from Texas State University (Go Bobcats!) and has served on the McCoy College of Business Human Resource Management Advisory Board since 2014. She has also recently completed both her M.S. in Human Resource Management and her M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington. Selected to participate in SHRM’s pilot testing program, Ashley was a part of the first group of HR professionals to test for and pass the SHRM-CP examination.

Brooke Liu-Boston is a collaborative, human resources professional that is driven by the integration of HR strategy into an organization’s comprehensive business plan. Brooke is Corporate Project Manager and Human Resources Specialist for Acrisure, LLC, which is headquartered in Caledonia, Michigan. Acrisure is a national organization focused on excellence in risk management insurance, benefits design, and human resources outsourcing. In her current role, Liu-Boston is responsible for Acrisure’s talent acquisition activity, is a member of the merger and acquisition integration team, and facilitates other strategic human resources outsourcing initiatives.

In 2015, Liu-Boston will be concluding graduate work at Davenport University concentrating in Business Strategic Management. She also obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and Anthropology from Grand Valley State University in 2011 and completed post-baccalaureate studies in Human Resources from Davenport University in 2012. In addition to SHRM, Liu-Boston is a professional member of the Greater Grand Rapids Association for Human Resources Management (AHRM), Project Management Institute (PMI), and an Alumni of Alpha Omicron Pi.

Max Rickard has worked in the HR field in various capacities. Currently, Max is employed as an Associate Human Resources Business Partner at the Walt Disney Company. Veronica Castaneda Sauza

Veronica Castaneda Sauza is a passionate professional for Human Resources and Organizational Development. She began her professional career at The Hershey Company in Mexico as a generalist (her sweetest professional experience), after performing in areas of communication and development in the same company.

Sauza currently works as Coordinator of Culture and Performance in the headquarters of FEMSA, a Mexican company with more than 200000 employees, and multiple business units, present in over 11 countries.

Sauza has a degree in psychology and is currently pursuing a Master of Organizational Development at the University of Monterrey. Sauza is also Alumni of AIESEC, an international organization dedicated to developing the potential of the young, with whom she was volunteer during few years in their own country and participated in development experiences in Canada and the Czech Republic.

Sauza is very excited to be part of YPAC and contribute with the objective of SHRM, of working in order to stimulate the development of HR professionals.


Stevie Sprague, PHR

Stevie Sprague received her BS in Business Administration from Buffalo State University and MBA from Bellevue University. She completed her PHR certification in November 2015 and is currently the Senior Specialist in University Recruitment at Union Pacific Railroad.

In her role, Sprague has responsibility for program management of Union Pacific’s University Recruiting Program, which includes recruiting managers and interns from various campuses across the United States. In addition to recruiting she also manages the strategy, analytics, benchmarking and training as it pertains to university recruitment. The most rewarding aspect of her role is recruiting and attracting young professionals into the organization and watching them progress throughout their careers.

When she is not at career fairs recruiting the future leaders of Union Pacific, Sprague enjoys traveling, movies, yoga, and playing with her Siamese cat, Loki. She has been a SHRM member since 2011 and also active with her local SHRM chapter. Sprague is very excited to join the SHRM Young Professionals Advisory Council and is looking forward to continue to develop the program in 2016.
