Staff Lead Biography

Nancy Conway, SHRM-CP, MBA
Field Services Director 
Society for Human Resource Management

Nancy Conway is SHRM’s Field Services Director for the North Central Region, supporting 64 Professional Chapters, 19 Student Chapters, 6 State Councils, and SHRM members in the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.  She is the SHRM staff lead for the Talent Acquisition Panel, leads the Young Professional Advisory Council, and leads the Workforce Readiness Core Leadership Area for chapters and state councils, along with other SHRM responsibilities.

Nancy has worked in the HR profession for over 27 years with industry experience in retail, call centers, banking, and health care.  During her career Nancy has worked in all areas of Human Resources and worked for multi-state companies with over 15,000 employees.  She served in a variety of chapter and state council volunteer roles prior to joining SHRM.

Nancy received her master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma and her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska.   Nancy is proud to be SHRM-SCP certified.

Dr. Rodney Alvarez SHRM-SCP, SPHR

Rodney Alvarez leads the development and execution of our talent management initiatives. Alvarez has over 15 years' experience in talent management mostly working in technology companies. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles and has held senior HR roles at FAST (now Microsoft), British Petroleum, Attivio and Celtra. His areas of expertise include recruitment, employee recognition, compensation and performance management.


Heather D. Barker, PHR, SHRM-CP, MBA

Heather Barker is a Human Resources Professional with over 15 years of experience specializing in mid-size to large organizations providing guidance and leadership to senior managers in startup and established organizations. Her broad experience includes change management, organizational effectiveness, employee relations, leadership and learning & development.  Her career experience spans in various industries including oil & gas, financial, logistics, pharmaceutical research and food services.

Barker is currently the Director of Human Resources for TGS, a global organization that provides multi-client geoscience data to oil and gas exploration and production companies worldwide. In her role she supports a fast paced organization, linking people strategies to business strategies and is responsible for leading and implementing company wide web based performance review system, creating and delivering learning & developing strategies to senior leaders.

Prior to joining TGS, Barker held human resources leadership positions for NEXT Financial Group, Noble Logistics Inc. and Sysco Corporation.

Barker earned her Master's in Business Administration from University of Houston and is a national member of the Society of Human Resource Management, World at Work and CEB.  She is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) by HRCI and SHRM-CP, through SHRM, and is a certified facilitator through DDI.


Janice Clements-Skelton, MS

Janice Clements-Skelton brings over 30 years of work experience in Human Resources and Talent Acquisition for growing professional services companies.  Janice is currently the Chief Human Resources Officer at EBI Consulting in Burlington, Mass., and was most recently the Vice President of HR and Talent Acquisition for Altran North America   She has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Clark University in Worcester, Mass., and a Master of Science in Training and Development from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass.

Throughout her career, Clements-Skelton has positioned Human Resources to support organizational growth through innovative and creative application of resources, from talent acquisition to technology systems and career development programs.  Focusing on addressing operational needs through strategic planning, creating organizational sustainability and working human resources from both the bottom up and the top down, Clements-Skelton has fully integrated the talent life cycle into corporate strategy.

Christel Colón, SHRM-SCP, SPHR

Christel Colón, SHRM-SCP, SPHR is a career Human Resources professional.  She has specialized in compensation management and worked as a generalist in law, publishing, advertising, healthcare, higher education, research and development, government, incubator start-ups and consulting for domestic and global organizations with populations from 50 to 15,000 employees.

She earned a Bachelor's degree in Speech Communications from Pace University in NYC and a Masters in Labor Management Studies from Stony Brook University on Long Island.  She has a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute and the new SHRM-SCP certification from the Society of Human Resource Management as well as a Labor Management certification from New York State.

An avid supporter of professional development, Colón is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM National), WorldatWork, and American Society for Training & Development.  She is the President of SHRM-Long Island, where her passion to advance the Human Resources profession has afforded her the opportunity to hold almost every chapter leadership position and establish the SHRM-LI Council on Diversity & Inclusion.

A Veterans' champion, Colón served as the Veterans Affairs Coordinator at Stony Brook University for six years and has volunteered extensively to efforts that help Veterans transition to the civilian workforce as well as helping other HR professionals and their organizations appreciate the value of hiring Veterans.

Colón has developed and presented numerous programs on a vast array of HR topics at conferences and varied venues.   At Stony Brook University, she was an Adjunct Faculty and taught graduate level HR Management courses and facilitated the establishment of Stony Brook University as a certified instructional site for the PHR/SPHR Certification Prep course.  She is an Advisory Board member of St. John's University's Management Department in the area of Human Resources.

Colón has held senior compensation management positions at St. Vincent's Hospital and The Mount Sinai Medical Center and had a very progressive HR career at Stony Brook University.  She was recently the Director of Human Resources at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) and is presently at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the newly created position of Human Resources Business Partner for scientific and operations organizations.

Colón was born and raised in New York City and presently resides in Bethpage, Long Island.

Wonzetta "Wonda" Cooper, SHRM-SCP

Wonda Cooper is a senior human resources professional with over 15 years’ of extensive multi-site, domestic and international experience. Her expertise in human resources spans the retail, manufacturing, and distribution industries.  She has lead start up teams in diverse cultural environments, in multiple industries, in both regulated and non-regulated sectors.  Recognized for her intellectual horsepower as an effective, collaborative leader skilled in building and motivating high performance teams across divisional boundaries.  She is a solid professional that has the strategic agility to bring “best-in-class” people, processes and technology that deliver efficiencies and profitability, through blending service delivery with organic outsourced resources, both foreign and domestic.

A highlight in her career was being awarded the Excellence in HR Award, from the South Florida Business Journal in 2005.  Wonda also served on the Board of Directors, for Employers Association of Florida (EAF).  

Along with the SHRM-SCP certification, she is a graduate of the University of Phoenix, Plantation, FL with a B.S. Degree in Business Management.

Paula H. Harvey, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR is the VP of Human Resources for Schulte Business Systems in Hockley, Texas. She has 29 years' experience as a Human Resources generalist. She earned her Bachelors of Business Administration in International Marketing and Operations Management from the University of Texas at Austin. She has also earned her MBA with a concentration in Human Resources Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

She is a Senior Global Certified Professional of Human Resources through SHRM and HRCI. She is an internationally recognized speaker on global and strategic business issues and teaches on related topics. She has published articles on HR topics and co-authored two books with other HR professionals.

She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) having served as the SE Membership Advisory Council Representative (MAC), NCSHRM State Director/President and President of Union County HR Association and Charlotte Area SHRM. Currently she is a member of HR Houston on the University Liaison committee and TXSHRM A-team. She was awarded the NCSHRM "HR Professional of the Year" In 2014 she was recognized as the NCSHRM HR Humanitarian of the Year for her efforts in mentoring HR students.

Mel Hennigan SHRM-CP

Mel Hennigan, SHRM-CP, is a human resources leader whose credo is to help organizations achieve business outcomes by connecting the values and objectives of the organization with the strengths and motivators of its people.  She is currently working as the head of HR for Symplicity Corporation in the greater Washington DC area. Hennigan's work background includes companies in the private and public sectors, spans government, education and technology industries, and range in size from start-up to multi-national. She finds fulfillment in working with companies which are taking on aggressive challenges and have meaningful missions of social responsibility. Hennigan is a participating member, volunteer and panelist for multiple professional organizations including the Society for Human Resources Management and Women In Technology. Hennigan is a proud mother of 3 boys, happy wife of 1 Superman, and a former competitive athlete. When at her home in the VA horse country, she is enjoying the smaller pleasures in life; family, friends, food and music.


Mike Letizia, SHRM-SCP

Mike Letizia is an accomplished senior human resource generalist in human resources with over 32 years' experience in the full scope of HR functional areas. His expertise covers strategic planning, workforce analysis, compensation & benefits administration, employee relations, recruiting and selection, payroll and salary administration, human resource development, and occupational safety, and security. Letizia is a subject matter expert in California employment law and is the author and developer of, "California Employment Law Essentials for Business".

A strong believer in stewardship and community involvement, Letizia served as the Pacific West Region Representative on SHRM's Membership Advisory Council for 2015 & 2016 and currently serves on a SHRM Special Expertise Panel. In addition, he serves as Past State Director for CalSHRM and also serves on the San Joaquin SHRM Board of Directors (2001-present) as Chapter President (2016-2017).

Letizia is a contracted instructor for SHRM delivering both virtual and face-to-face human resource education courses throughout the USA and California. He is a frequent speaker at business and trade associations delivering presentations, workshops and courses on a variety of human resource topics.


Jeff S. Luttrell SHRM-SCP, SPHR

Jeff Lutrell received his BA in Journalism from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He started his professional career in the publishing and advertising world and after 8 years, he made a career change. Jeff has been a recruiter in the Raleigh/Durham area for almost 20 years. He has both staffing industry experience and corporate recruiting experience including international recruiting.  He has led teams for large hiring projects, niche and specialty roles and executive recruitment.    Lutrell is currently located in Asheville, N.C.

Lutrell is currently Director of Talent Acquisition with Alorica, a business process outsourcing company based in Irvine, Calif.  He leads teams of recruiters across the world.  Previously, he was a Recruiting Manager in Global Talent Acquisition and Staffing with Xerox in the outsource services division and an Area Manager for Kelly Services.

Lutrell has been a Board member with Raleigh-Wake HRMA for the past 10 years including Treasurer, President and SHRM Foundation Director. He is also NCSHRM State Council Director for 2016-2017. Lutrell co-chaired the Pinnacle award winning HR on Call for RWHRMA and co-chaired the 2011 NCSHRM State Conference.  He served on the HR Disciplines panel in 2016.

Lutrell's other passion lies in fitness and nutrition.  He is a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer, US Olympic Weightlifting Certified Coach and has a Sports Nutrition certification.  He co-owns and coaches at CrossFit Surmount in Apex, NC.


Kelly Marinelli SHRM-SCP, JD, SPHR

Kelly Marinelli, J.D., SHRM-SCP, SPHR is the founder of and Principal Consultant at Solve HR, Inc. in Boulder, Colo., and is also an HR Professional Services Consultant serving members of Mountain States Employers Council. She has extensive experience working in HR in multiple industries, including manufacturing and energy, in every type of organization, including Fortune 500 companies, large privately-held international entities, startups, and Colorado nonprofits.

Marinelli has been licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado since 1995, and specializes in federal contractor compliance, employment and labor regulation and finding the intersection of legal requirements and business success. She blogs on these issues and others at solvewrites.com. Marinelli is an active SHRM member, has held volunteer positions with the Boulder Area Human Resources Association and Colorado SHRM, and pursues her passion for labor and employment policy as an active member of the SHRM A-Team. 


Carol L. McDaniel

As the Director of Talent Acquisition at Johns Hopkin's All Children's Hospital, Carol McDaniel oversees, directs and manages a team of 10 in the recruitment process for one of the most progressive organizations in the healthcare industry to meet the needs of a demanding pediatric hospital under the Johns Hopkins Health System.

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, located in St. Petersburg, FL, is the most advanced children's hospital on Florida's west coast and is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Children's Hospital. In April 2011, All Children's became the only U.S. hospital outside the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. region to join Johns Hopkins Medicine. Together, these organizations are dedicated to treatment, education, research and advocacy to improve children's health.

After serving in the United States Air Force for ten years, McDaniel's experience in the Talent Acquisition Industry began in Olsten Staffing, Lucent Technologies as a corporate recruiter, and she worked for Bernard Hodes Group for 12 years working with organizations to put strategies in place. Her background combines extensive Human Resource consulting, recruiting, marketing and advertising expertise. With her strong understanding of the many challenges in today's competitive labor market environment she is considered a subject matter expert in the employer marketing and branding process. This expertise has proved to play a crucial role in the development of talent management and acquisition strategies. Carol is a frequent speaker at HR and SHRM events, national programs and training seminars to focus on the areas of talent acquisition and talent communications.

McDaniel is the Immediate Past President of the HR Florida State Council and serves on the Pasco County Economic Development Council.

McDaniel lives in Land O' Lakes, FL with her husband Don. 


Dr. Kim Ruyle HCS, Ph.D.

 Kim E. Ruyle, PhD, is President of Inventive Talent Consulting, a Florida-based firm that provides strategic talent management and organizational development consulting for leading global organizations. He is an Associate in Korn Ferry’s Global Network. 

Kim has 30 years of experience in human resources, organizational development, and general management. Previously, he served six years as Vice President of Research & Development at Korn Ferry Leadership and Talent consulting where he led the development of numerous robust talent management tools, assessments, and thought leadership. Prior to joining Korn Ferry, Kim was director of learning and development for Siemens Logistics and Automation Systems, where he was responsible for strategic HR practices including succession planning, performance management, and employee development. Previously, Kim managed learning and development processes and technology for Deere & Company, founded and ran a software company, and taught at four universities. 

Kim has presented at more than 100 professional conferences, published dozens of articles and book chapters, served on numerous expert panels and editorial boards, and authored or co-authored five books on leadership and talent management. Kim has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society of Human Resource Management. He served for several years on SHRM’s Special Expertise Panels for Organizational Development and for HR Disciplines. Kim has also been certified a Master Human Capital Strategist by the Human Capital Institute and earned an Executive Certificate in Applied NeuroLeadership Program through the NeuroLeadership Institute and Pepperdine University. 

Kim earned PhD and MS degrees from Oregon State University, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, an MEd from East Texas State University, and a BS degree from Winona State University. His fields of study are business, vocational-technical education, industrial engineering, instructional design, adult education, and instructional technology. In his role as Principal at Ryan Search & Consulting, Dan Ryan leads the Talent Acquisition, Talent Development and Succession Strategy processes for the firm.  Dan helps provide a seamless system of methods that enables clients to look at their talent needs from an internal and external perspective. The primary market segments for the firm include the Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Manufacturing, Healthcare, and Utility worlds.

Ryan Search has worked with multi-national clients with large workforces and has also helped small firms in the emerging economy understand how to best understand, utilize and leverage their existing talent. 

Ryan has earned a M.Ed. from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, an MBA from Tennessee State University, and a BS in Engineering Physics from Murray State University.  He is an adjunct faculty member for Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and has also taught at Belmont University.


Jeremy T. Tolley

Jeremy T. Tolley is an experienced talent executive with a knack for building and supporting organizations during rapid expansion. As Chief People Officer for CareHere, a national leader in onsite, employer-sponsored healthcare, Tolley leads talent acquisition, human resources, training and organizational development for a widely distributed workforce. Prior to CareHere, he had a 14 year tenure with a successful, fast-growth hospitality company where he served as head of talent, helping that company grow from 300 to over 9,000 employees.

Tolley is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and has a bachelor's degree in organizational development from the University of Memphis. He is passionate about company culture, talent management, productivity, and communications.

Ronda Wakefield, SHRM-SCP, SPHR has been in human resources for the past 11 years, the last 8 in human resource management positions.  Currently the Human Resource Manager for Nomad Global Communication Solutions, she is responsible for all aspects of human resources including recruitment, hiring, termination, employee relations, safety, benefits administration, performance management, manager training, unemployment issues, workers compensation, and workforce development.  Outside of the office Wakefield serves as an ESGR Representative for Montana and is very active in the Flathead Valley Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Montana State SHRM Council as the Workforce Development Director, and 2016 SHRM National Special Expertise Panel, HR Disciplines.  Holding both her SHRM-SCP and SPHR certifications, Wakefield also does independent human resources consulting and leadership/management training for other organizations as well facilitation of HR classes at the local community college.
