Jonathan McBride

Jonathan McBride is the former global head of inclusion and diversity at BlackRock, a position he left in December 2019. He also served on the firm's operating committee and held other leadership roles. Prior to joining BlackRock, McBride was director of the Presidential Personnel Office in the White House, a role he was appointed to in July 2013. He joined the administration in August 2009 as a special assistant to the president and deputy director of the Presidential Personnel Office. During his tenure, he led a number of initiatives, including co-chairing with the deputy director of management for the United States an initiative to reform management and "work" in government. Prior to serving in the White House, McBride was chief strategy officer at Universum, a global employer branding company, and served as the company's most senior consultant to companies and organizations looking to attract and retain top talent. In 2000, he co-founded Jungle Media Group. Jungle's magazines, websites and live events served a variety of audiences, including MBAs, attorneys, college students, African-American young professionals and Hispanic young professionals. Jungle Media was nominated for three National Magazine Awards. McBride also was an associate at Goldman Sachs and a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl at the start of his career.

While in Washington, D.C., McBride helped start an initiative that developed solutions for improving cross-sector leadership, which eventually became the Cross Sector Leadership Fellowship Program in San Francisco. It is now housed at the School of Public Policy at Pepperdine University. While at BlackRock, he and a co-worker helped launch the Science of Diversity and Inclusion Initiative at the University of Chicago. It is now housed at the Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership at the University of California, Berkeley. McBride has an MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in economics and U.S. history from Connecticut College.
