Bethany Rose has made an impact on every aspect of the employee life cycle at Federated IT with improvements to the interviewing, onboarding, review and separation processes.
As the HR director with Federated IT, an Arlington, Va.-based technology consulting and government contracting company, Rose managed the transition to a new HR information system. The system cut the average time to recruit new employees from 43 days to 26 within the first six months. Working with the finance department, she implemented a complex new salary-banding structure and career-progression model. She has also revised the company’s employee handbook and benefits administration practices and instituted spot bonuses to recognize outstanding work.
Rose, 29, demonstrates a genuine concern for the company’s 100 employees. When turnover on one project was unusually high, she held one-on-one sessions with workers to hear their concerns and determine the root cause. Her efforts led to a decline in churn for eight consecutive months and the retention of critical technical talent.
To gather data and increase communications, she has fielded surveys, held meetings with employees and introduced a company newsletter. Her interactions with employees revealed that transportation and parking benefits were highly desired. Through aggressive benefits negotiation, she was able to add both while maintaining current benefits offerings and reducing the overall cost to the company and employees.
