Meet the Millennials who are leading HR into the future.
Jackie Yoken, HR manager, hit the ground running when she started working at Brief Media in Tulsa, Okla., in May 2015. She had to. She became a one-woman HR show for the 52-employee publishing company, which provides small-animal veterinary teams with print and digital content. Within her first six months at an organization with no formal HR department, Yoken recruited, hired and onboarded 25 new employees; revamped the benefits system; implemented an HR software system companywide; drastically improved insurance offerings; and reworked the employee handbook to reflect and emphasize work/life balance—all while earning her master’s degree in human relations and organizational development.
The 28-year-old champions the belief that great employers put employees first. Yoken is passionate about developing workers—identifying and magnifying their strengths to ensure the best possible working experience and return for the company. She has taken the lead in mentoring new managers and helping them develop their teams. She works with the executive team to promote transparency and authenticity from the top down. Yoken is acutely aware that giving employees a voice is key to workplace satisfaction. Friendly and approachable, Yoken’s door is always open for the staff at Brief Media.
