Mallory NortonMallory Norton, 29, built an HR department from scratch for a rapidly growing 200-employee aerospace resource company based in Montreal. Since the Wichita office of Global Partner Solutions opened two years ago, she has created employee handbooks, developed compliance and safety policies, created a formal performance review process, and implemented an electronic onboarding system and benefits portal.

“There’s always a project going on here,” says Norton, who is HR manager.

Her ability to overcome obstacles inspires friends and colleagues. She has been described as “wise beyond her years.”

As a child, she had little parental support or guidance. Fortunately, she had several mentors who encouraged her to pursue her education. While in college, she had a son, now 8, who was born with cerebral palsy.

“I’ve tried to encourage others that it’s not necessarily what you start out with but what you make of yourself,” she says.

“I’m a go-getter. I like to get things done and take on new challenges. I think that’s contributed to my success,” says Norton, who has an MBA and is studying for the SHRM-CP certification exam. She has been elected to serve as vice president of communications on the SHRM Wichita chapter’s board in 2017.
