#SHRM14 Will Transform You

By Henry G. Jackson Apr 1, 2014

April 2014 CoverTransform. It’s a strong word indicating major change. And it is the theme for the 2014 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition because, for you and thousands of other HR professionals in Orlando from June 22 to 25, it will be transformational.

Our goal is to make this the best conference you’ve ever experienced. This year, you’ll find new opportunities to connect with your peers, learn from the best speakers in our profession and find solutions to the challenges you face.

This is your premier opportunity for professional development, whether you want to earn recertification credits, stay current on topics, or get a grasp of emerging HR trends such as social recruiting and "big data." Through extensive global research, SHRM identified the nine core competencies needed to succeed as an HR professional, and we’ve designed this conference around helping you develop them and shape your career. You can custom-build your experience from more than 200 concurrent sessions. You’ll also discover products, services and solutions among more than 700 exhibitors at the world’s largest HR marketplace, the SHRM Exposition.

No other event brings together more HR professionals at every career level, across every industry, from the U.S. and abroad. I once heard someone say, "SHRM is a four-letter word for career and networking." If that’s true, our Annual Conference & Exposition is SHRM, and HR, at its best. #SHRM14 is already buzzing on Twitter.

In addition, some of today’s most notable figures will take the stage, including renowned author, reporter and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Tom FriedmanYum! Brands Chairman and CEO David Novak; former first lady Mrs. Laura Bush; and "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts. They will transform the way you see yourself and your ability to change the world.

That’s what happened to Greg, a VP of HR and SHRM member who attended the 2013 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition in Chicago. He was so inspired by keynoter Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes, and his organization’s "one for one" model of corporate philanthropy (buy one pair of shoes, give one pair to a child in need) that he devised a plan to transform his own organization.

Greg’s company, MicroSeismic, provides what he calls "ears on the ground" for the oil and gas industry, listening to sounds of the hydraulic fracturing process far below the earth’s surface. To motivate employees to monitor more underground wells in less time, Greg launched his own "one for one" concept—helping a hearing-impaired child for every well the company monitors. So far, MicroSeismic has helped more than 30 hearing-impaired children and their families, and it is on track to influence hundreds more this year.

This is a story of real transformation—and it started at SHRM’s Annual Conference. Join us in Orlando for an HR learning, networking and inspirational event without equal. I’ll see you there.
