Top recommendation for HR: Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action (Portfolio, 2011) by Simon Sinek, a well-known TED speaker.
Why it’s relevant: Too often, companies, and especially HR, focus on the “what.” What’s the next project? What do I do about this employee? Sinek asks us to start with “why” instead. Doing so gives you the emotional and behavioral connection you need in most HR situations. People want context before they act or support what you’re trying to do.
What I’m bringing to the beach: I just picked up the
first book in the Game of Thrones series. I love it! It’s great to get lost in another world and do some kingdom building.
