EBI EBI offered more than 1,600 prizes, including tech items and Starbucks gift cards.

Ceridian Walden University brought in a makeup artist and a professional photographer to shoot headshots.

Ceridian Ceridian silk-screened T-shirts customized with HR slogans and printed them on the spot as attendees waited.

With 55 percent of the nearly 1,000 votes, EBI has won SHRM’s inaugural swag contest—a chance for attendees to choose the best giveaways from vendors in the SHRM 2016 Exposition.

From more than 600 vendors, we chose 12 whose swag was among the best. We limited these top picks to vendors who offered their giveaways to everyone and who offered them all the days that the Exposition was open. We then invited attendees to vote for their favorites.

The winner by a clear majority was EBI, which offers pre-employment background checks. More than 1,600 prizes were given away at the EBI booth: GoPro video cameras, wireless JBL Flip 3 speakers, Mpow Macro Lenses and Starbucks gift cards.

In a tightly contested race for second place, Walden University pulled ahead of Ceridian. Walden University brought in a makeup artist and a professional photographer to shoot glamour photos. The company then offered the photos to attendees on a thumb drive and even helped place those shots on LinkedIn.

Ceridian, a global human capital management tech company, silk-screened T-shirts customized with HR slogans and printed them on the spot as attendees waited.

The other nominees offered some terrific giveaways, too:

  • AHC, a benefits communication agency, provided a stand-up cutout of the Queen of England and actors dressed as the Queen’s Guard for attendees to take photos with.
  • CareerBuilder, a job board, gave customized political campaign buttons complete with attendees’ photos.
  • Globoforce, a social recognition company, let attendees take their pick of several choices of candy.
  • iCIMS, a software-as-a-service talent acquisition provider, set up a T-shirt vending machine activated by tweets.
  • Namely, an HR software company with a wellness focus, handed out healthy trail mix.
  • Omaha Steaks, a purveyor of quality food gifts, offered attendees samples of steaks and ham.
  • Paramount Transportation Systems, a global moving company, gave away plush teddy bears by Gund.
  • Purchasing Power, a voluntary benefits provider, offered various kinds of brownies.
  • UniGroup, a global relocation company, hosted a caricature artist who drew attendees’ portraits.

Voters in the swag survey also wrote in other choices that we didn’t list. Some of their nominees were:

  • Stuffed dolls from Aflac and Geico.
  • Mini-pillows, cotton candy and Bluetooth speakers from HR Cloud.
  • Silver charms and pins of the Capitol building from Terryberry.
  • Bags with matching Eos lip balms from Paylocity.
  • Makeup, hair and photos from Ajilon Staffing.
  • Bags from Imprint.
  • Moscow mule mugs from Baudville.
  • Pictures with penguins, leopard cubs and Jack Hanna from Nationwide, as well as s’mores.
