Employers are encouraged to apply for the Work Life Legacy Military Award, sponsored by the Families and Work Institute (FWI), a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization.
The award honors organizations that make an extra effort to hire and support U.S. military veterans and their families. Employers that have applied in previous years may submit themselves for consideration again, regardless of whether they previously won, and will be asked to describe what they have done to enhance or expand their initiatives.
An hourlong question-and-answer session about the application process is scheduled, via conference call, for Jan. 8, 2014.
Applications are due by midnight Feb. 14, 2014.
Winners will be announced June 18 in New York City. Speakers will include senior company representatives and former military personnel, who will share personal stories about their organization’s efforts to hire and support members of the military.
The FWI established the award in 2004. Cornell, JPMorgan Chase, Merck, and Verizon won in 2013, and honorable mentions went to Bon Secours, Citi, Deloitte, General Motors, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Sodexo and The Walt Disney Co.
The Society for Human Resource Management and FWI formed a multiyear partnership in 2011 to help organizations be more successful by transforming the way businesses view and adopt flexible workplace practices.
