A New Congress Means a New Policy Agenda for America’s Workplaces

The 114th Congress was sworn into office this week, and the start of a new Congress means new opportunities for HR professionals to get informed about workplace policies being debated in Washington. There has already been a flurry of activity in the past month, in the form of rulemakings, executive orders and now emerging legislation, that will have a direct impact on HR professionals.

With over 70 freshmen lawmakers, the 114th Congress is promising to be an ambitious one with Congress expected to deal with workplace policy proposals ranging from including the Affordable Care Act, immigration reform, pay equity and leave policies. Thus, it’s critical that lawmakers hear directly from HR professionals in their respective states and congressional districts on how these workplace policies will play out in their respective organizations. That’s why SHRM strongly encourages members to attend this year’s Employment Law & Legislative Conference from March 23-25, 2015.

This premier event provides HR professionals with the information and tools needed to understand the complexities of the multitude of federal workplace laws and regulations related to their businesses. In addition, SHRM’s Government Affairs staff will provide policy updates on pending HR-related proposals on Capitol Hill, as well as best practices on how to effectively communicate with lawmakers. Conference attendees will also have the unique opportunity to meet with their lawmakers to personally discuss legislative issues of relevance to the profession.
