A Snapshot of Three Late-Breaking Regulatory Actions of Interest to the HR Community

Jan 30, 2015

As we go to print with this issue of the newsletter, a number of regulatory items have come to light, and we thought it best to give our readers a heads-up about them. Below are the highlights of actions that we’ll be reporting on in our next issue of HR Issues Update.

  • Sex Discrimination - The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) announced plans to overhaul OFCCP’s sex discrimination guidelines. A proposed rule will be published in the Federal Register today and open for public comment from January 30 to March 31.
  • Human Trafficking - A final Federal Acquisition Regulation was published in the Federal Register defining new obligations for federal contractor to ensure there is no human trafficking in their business or supply chain. SHRM is reviewing these rules and will report on additional information in upcoming issues of HR Issues Update.
  • President’s Immigration Executive Action – On January 29, SHRM and its affiliate, the Council for Global Immigration (CFGI), submitted public comments in response to a Department of Homeland Security and Department of State Request for Information on streamlining and modernizing the visa system. SHRM and CFGI made several recommendations, including development of a Trusted Employer program that would substantially reduce the resources necessary for adjudications.
