SHRM’s active member advocacy group, named the Advocacy Team – or A-Team, is comprised of a growing network of over 7,600 HR advocates across the country dedicated to moving the needle concerning lawmakers’ knowledge of the HR profession and communicating SHRM’s views on key workplace issues. With 2015 off to such a busy legislative start in Washington, the A-Team is armed and ready for an active and productive year with the new 114th Congress and a proactive Obama administration on the regulatory front.

Moving forward, whatever regulations or laws lie ahead for the workplace this year, one thing is certain: HR advocacy and engagement with lawmakers will be more important than ever, and it’s critical for all HR professionals, in alliance with members of SHRM’s A-Team, to communicate the HR perspective to their elected members of Congress. Fortunately, SHRM offers ongoing training opportunities, events, resources and staff to help lead the A-Team to success.

The first of four quarterly A-Team training webinars (held on February 11) provided advocates with the opportunity to hear directly from members of SHRM’s Government Affairs team about anticipated HR-related legislative/regulatory issues, upcoming advocacy opportunities like the SHRM Employment Law & Legislative Conference in March, and also how advocates’ engagement with lawmakers will be critical this spring as Congress focuses on workplace policies in the weeks ahead.
