​A wealth of opportunities awaits SHRM-certified professionals at the SHRM 2017 Annual Conference & Exposition in New Orleans, to be held June 18-21. Special events and resources will enable certificants to earn recertification credits, learn, network—and even take a moment to relax amid the hubbub. 

SHRM Certification Lounge. A dedicated space reserved for SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential-holders, located in the Connection Zone. Recharge yourself and your phone, grab a snack, or chat with certified peers. Certification counselors will be on hand to discuss ways to earn professional development credits (PDCs) and how to maintain your SHRM credential.

Hours: June 18, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; June 19, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; June 20, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; June 21, 8-11 a.m. 

Annual Conference Competency Development Plan. Design your personalized road map to #SHRM17 with this guide for attendee certificants at all career levels. It shows you how to identify your competency strengths and development needs, select sessions to leverage those strengths and improve proficiencies, and create a solid plan to continue learning after the conference. Smart Stage presentations. 18-minute "executive summary"-style briefings for busy attendees:

  • SHRM Certification: An Update on the Global Standard for HR Certification, presented by Alexander Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, SHRM's senior vice president for knowledge development and certification. The latest developments concerning your credentials and what they mean for your day-to-day work. (June 18, noon)
  • SHRM Recertification Made Easy!, presented by Cornelia Springer, SHRM's director of certification services. Find out the requirements for recertification, how to earn PDCs from the widest array of activities, and when to submit your application. (June 20, 3:20 p.m.)
     

New book. Certificants who read the latest volume in the HR Competency Series, published this year by SHRM, are eligible for three PDCs when they complete a quiz based on the book. Stop by the SHRMStore for additional information:

  • Applying Critical Evaluation, by Jennifer Currence (part of the Making an Impact in Small Business series of books). For HR professionals in small businesses and HR departments of one, this book tells how to collect and analyze data and apply best practices for interpreting and promoting findings.
     

Panel discussion. The CHRO Perspective: How the Best Make It Happen! Strategic HR leaders, including SHRM Certification Commissioner Tim Young, SHRM-SCP, share their successes, struggles and advice, and discuss the role of competencies in relation to today's issues. (June 18, 12:30-2 p.m.) 

Concurrent session. The Value of SHRM Certification, presented by Alexander Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, SHRM's senior vice president for knowledge development and certification. Discover why certification matters in HR, relevant research regarding certification across all professions, and how the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK) was built. (June 20, 10:45 a.m.-noon) 

Seminar. SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification Preparation, presented by qualified and certified HR instructors. Focus your study efforts for either exam with this intensive, comprehensive review of the SHRM BoCK. Additional fee and registration required. (June 17, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; June 18, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; June 19, 1:30-5:30 p.m.; June 20, 1:30-5:30 p.m.)
