Real-World HR features candid stories from the front lines of HR

A new online resource guide features first-person accounts from SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential-holders describing how the SHRM-defined competencies have affected them as practicing HR professionals. Real-World HR: Bringing the SHRM Competency Model to Life, edited by SHRM senior marketing specialist Sara Bracco and available on the SHRM website, demonstrates the vibrancy of the SHRM Competency Model, which is the basis for SHRM certification.
The 17 engaging stories in the e-book were culled from interviews with SHRM certificants across a range of industries, job titles and experience levels. Their candid views on how they put the HR competencies to work in their organizations and careers "attest to how effective and useful the SHRM Competency Model is for assessment, certification and development," said Jeff T. H. Pon, SHRM-SCP, chief HR and strategy officer at SHRM.
Real-World HR is "a quick snapshot view of the model from a front-line perspective," said Alex Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, SHRM senior vice president of knowledge development and certification. Noting that the contributors are "true experts—your own HR colleagues," Alonso said he hopes their anecdotes inspire readers "in evaluating where you are today in your professional development and where you want to be tomorrow."
