Answers to frequently asked questions about maintaining your credential

Neither members nor non-members may reproduce such samples in any other way (e.g., to republish in a book or use for a commercial purpose) without SHRM’s permission. Have questions about recertifying your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential? Twice a month, the SHRM Certification team will answer some of the frequently asked questions they receive from credential-holders.
Q: Must I enter professional development credits (PDCs) from each of the three categories (Advance Your Education, Advance Your Organization and Advance Your Profession) in order to recertify?
A: No. For example, certificants may recertify by entering all 60 PDCs in the Advance Your Education category if the PDCs come from instructor-led opportunities. Please note, however, that the following categories have maximum allowed credit caps:

A: No. One major benefit of SHRM's recertification requirements is the ability to determine your own professional development path based on your specific needs.
