Have questions about recertifying your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential? Twice a month, the SHRM Certification team will answer some of the frequently asked questions they receive from credential-holders.

Q: Must I enter professional development credits (PDCs) from each of the three categories (Advance Your Education, Advance Your Organization and Advance Your Profession) in order to recertify?

A: No. For example, certificants may recertify by entering all 60 PDCs in the Advance Your Education category if the PDCs come from instructor-led opportunities. Please note, however, that the following categories have maximum allowed credit caps:

  • Advance Your Education, self-paced (webcasts, videoconferences, e-learning, books): capped at a maximum of 30 PDCs.
  • Advance Your Organization: capped at a maximum of 20 PDCs.
  • Advance Your Profession: capped at a maximum of 30 PDCs.

Q: Do I need specific strategic or business credits to recertify?

A: No. One major benefit of SHRM's recertification requirements is the ability to determine your own professional development path based on your specific needs.
