SHRM Webcast Recap: Exam Tips from an Expert

HR professionals gearing up for their SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP exam received exclusive test-taking tips from a bona fide SHRM certification expert during a free webcast held last week. Nancy Woolever, MAIS, SHRM-SCP, vice president of certification operations at SHRM and editor of Ace Your SHRM Certification Exam: A Guide to Success on the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP Exams (SHRM, 2019), hosted the hourlong presentation on Oct. 6, 2020.

The webcast, now available on demand, provided an overview of the SHRM certification process and guidance to help candidates succeed on exam day.

Over 100,000 HR professionals have proven their expertise, boosted their chances of getting promoted and increased their earning potential by becoming SHRM-certified. For those still thinking about making the commitment, Woolever answered some of the top questions people have about certification:

  • What sets SHRM certification apart from other HR credentials?
  • Which level is right for me, the SHRM-CP or the SHRM-SCP?
  • What are my options to prepare for the exam?
  • What's the difference between taking the exam in person at a test center and taking it at home via live remote proctoring?

The second part of the presentation focused on how to best approach the exam. Woolever offered helpful tips that touched on:

  • How the test is structured.
  • Content, format and length.
  • Knowledge questions versus situational judgment questions.
  • How the exam is presented on screen.
  • Test-taking facts versus fiction.
