Social influencers are much in demand today and make perfect sense as brand builders and promoters. Online conversations are started and shared on social media, and influencers with several followers, expertise and trust have marked advantages over brands in terms of reach and persuasion.
In 2012, SHRM India ran the first ever report isolating the Top 20 Indian HR Influencers on Social Media. This year we did the same by releasing the 2013 edition of the report identifying the power nodes in the Twitter graph as relevant to HR domains. The new report, in addition to gauging the influence of dominant HR voices on Twitter, goes a step further by zeroing in on the content of the Twittersations.
“The methodology followed this year is similar to last year with one core addition. In 2012, we identified specific HR keywords and monitored them on Twitter. This year we looked at the influencers from Learning and Development, Social Media, Talent Management and Leadership domains and captured their influence on Twitter,” according to the report.
Social HR expert Gautam Ghosh aces the 2013 list and Tanmay Vohra (quality evangelist and blogger) and Sahana Chattopadhyay (L&D specialist) hold the second and third spots, respectively. Some of the other prominent names on the list include Vineet Nayar (joint managing director, HCL Tech), Abhijit Bhaduri (chief learning officer, Wipro), Aadil Bandukwala (recruitment product consultant, LinkedIn), and Anand Pillai (chief learning officer, Reliance), amongst others.
Considering its quick-paced nature and real time updates, the Twitter platform was an obvious choice as both quantitative (follower count, tweetlevel score) and qualitative measures (keywords) informed the methodology. The research focus with respect to Twitter conversations fell on topics including HR Practices, Industry Trends, Job Diversity, and Employee Relations. This led to the creation of a master list of 50 influencers, out of which 20 names were selected as being the most relevant.
Six new influencers find entry into the 2013 report as compared to its first edition. The city of Bangalore boasts a maximum of eight HR influencers, followed by Mumbai, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Chennai and Noida. Vineet Nayar leads the pack of influencers with a maximum of 440 retweets per 100 tweets. The influencers averaged nine tweets per day around HR topics. The conversation flows and interactions were also impressive with an average 59 retweets per 100 tweets and 56 replies per 100 tweets.
SHRM India’s latest report veritably offers starters and pros alike in the field of HR “a starting point to help identify and get in touch with the right audience … a successful connection can (actually) serve to grow and strengthen your own social reach and influence.”
