Are all employers required to post OSHA Form 300A, the Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses?




No. Certain industries are partially exempt from OSHA’s record-keeping requirements. Employers with 10 or fewer employees during all of the calendar year are not required to post OSHA Form 300A. In addition, businesses classified in specific low-hazard service, finance and insurance industries are not required to keep injury and illness records unless the Bureau of Labor Statistics or OSHA informs them in writing that they must do so.

Establishments with the following classifications in the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) are exempt from most of the OSHA recordkeeping requirements, regardless of size:

Employers should understand that each employer covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 must report to OSHA any workplace incident resulting in a fatality or an inpatient hospitalization. This is a separate requirement than the OSHA 300 reporting requirement.
