About Skills First Future

The future of work is skills-first. As hiring practices evolve, employers who adopt a skills-first approach gain access to untapped talent, drive growth, and create more opportunity. Skills First Future (SFF) equips organizations with the tools and guidance to adopt, scale, and sustain these strategies.

Skills-first hiring puts the right people in the right jobs. It benefits employers and applicants alike by focusing on what candidates can do—not just where they’ve been. As the world of work changes, we need shared language and better systems to identify and match skills.

With leadership across sectors, we can make skills-first hiring a standard—building stronger companies, better careers, and thriving communities.

Opportunity @ Work

We’re building a labor market where all Americans can work, learn, and earn to their full potential. Because right now, highly skilled STARs (workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes) are overlooked simply because they don’t have a bachelor’s degree. The result of today’s broken labor market? Unfilled positions, restricted economic mobility, and stalled industry and economic growth. Opportunity@Work’s mission is to generate $20 billion in wage gains for STARs. We are driving action and clarity by providing insights, customized tools, and services to advance skills-first hiring practices so STARs can thrive. No organization can do this alone – we must work together, on purpose.
