Lead the Movement
SHRM Foundation, with support from USAA, is mobilizing volunteers to help eliminate obstacles to employment for military community members.
Known as Military Community Ambassadors, these volunteer leaders will act as force multipliers to educate, inspire, and empower HR stakeholders. There are many other invaluable volunteer efforts working with military-connected talent one-on-one, but Military Community Ambassadors focus on employer readiness and work to train others in best practices to recruit, hire, and retain members of the military community.
As a Military Community Ambassador, you can make an exponential impact in the lives of military-connected individuals in the workforce. Your impact will also resonate in the businesses that hire talent from this valuable community with its in-demand skills and experiences.
The Roles & Responsibilities of a Military Community Ambassador
A Military Community Ambassador is a volunteer who promotes military-connected inclusion by educating and training HR professionals, hiring managers, and business leaders with the educational knowledge and actionable tools necessary to recruit, hire, and retain members of the military community in the workplace.
Military Community Ambassadors receive training, support, and resources to reach their goal of presenting the business case to a minimum of 250 HR professionals, hiring managers, and business leaders while securing their commitment to hire at least one member of the military community by the end of the year.
Serve as a Force Multiplier by:
- Hosting workshops, seminars, or webinars educating HR professionals, hiring managers, and business leaders on military community hiring.
- Working with Veterans Service Organizations to connect employers with military-connected talent.
- Recruiting new Ambassadors to increase the program’s reach.
Share Information on Program Efficacy by:
- Providing feedback to SHRM Foundation.
- Reporting your training sessions and attendees.
- Securing the commitment from employers to hire at least one member of the military community by year’s end.
Provide Insights to Local HR Efforts in Military-Connected Hiring and Specific Needs by:
- Participating in networking and community events to understand emerging needs.
- Working with local military installations, Veterans Service Organizations, or government agencies to identify workplaces to support their efforts in supporting transitioning service members, military spouses, caregivers, and National Guard and Reserve members.
