Job Summary:
The Aircraft Cargo Handling Supervisor will coordinate the loading, unloading, and staging of baggage and cargo, ensuring the security of these items and overseeing the employees involved in handling them.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assists in hiring and training departmental employees.
- Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of departmental employees.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participates in and directs the loading of various types of cargo including shipments, belongings, and materials, so that cargo space is used efficiently.
- Oversees and leads the loading, unloading, securing, or staging of aircraft cargo or baggage by ground crews.
- Calculates accurate load weights within various compartments of the aircraft; uses appropriate tools and charts to analyze weight, volume, or other relevant characteristics of cargo.
- Identifies the quantity, location, and direction of cargo and calculates the aircrafts center of gravity.
- Monitors and handles cargo in flight as a member of the flight crew.
- Reviews and analyzes current processes and revises or streamlines them to meet the needs and goals of the company.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of various types of aircraft and the cargo capacity for each.
- Ability to calculate the center of gravity of aircraft.
- Ability to organize and load cargo in a way that maximizes space.
- Excellent managerial skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in related field preferred.
- Previous work experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to traverse cargo areas in all types of weather.
