Job Summary:
The Geodetic Surveyor will measure the Earths surface using satellite observations, global satellite systems, and related resources.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May plan and supervise work of other geodetic surveying staff.
- Provides technical guidance to other geodetic surveying staff as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts surveys to measure points of elevation, lines, areas, and other land surface features.
- Uses geodetic survey techniques such as triangulation, trilateration, and traversing to measure and understand features of the Earths surface.
- Uses electronic distance measuring equipment, satellite-based positioning equipment, and other geodetic survey equipment to determine orientation of tracts of land.
- Updates and maintains database of geodetic and related information.
- Confirms and ensures mathematical accuracy of collected survey data; determines whether additional survey data is needed for engineering, construction, or other projects.
- Evaluates existing standards, controls, and equipment used and recommends changes or upgrades as needed.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments in geodetic equipment, technology, or systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of geodetic survey techniques, equipment, and computer-based software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Land Surveying or related field required.
- Five years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to traverse diverse terrain to gather data.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
