Job Summary:
The Landfill Attendant will oversee landfill operations by providing information and support to haulers and other clients, monitoring loads and site activities, and collecting applicable fees.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Inspects hauler vehicles and/or loads to ensure location and type of load is appropriate; refuses loads that do not meet state and federal requirements.
- Weighs or measures loads; collects payment based on load type and size.
- Directs vehicles to correct dumping locations.
- Ensures proper handling and disposal of trash and recyclables.
- Answers inquiries related to landfill operations.
- Operates backhoe, loader, and other machinery as needed; performs general maintenance on all equipment.
- Prepares daily reports of all landfill activity, detailing information such as volume and types of waste and recyclables collected.
- Prepares and balances daily financial records.
- Maintains logs and records detailing disposal of hazardous waste materials.
- Performs upkeep around scales, throughout landfill grounds, and in administrative areas to ensure a safe and clean facility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to count and balance money as necessary to complete financial records.
- Basic understanding of laws and regulations related to hazardous materials.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience with computer data entry and money handling required.
- Experience safely operating backhoe and loading equipment required; Class A CDL license preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must work in extreme outside weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to traverse uneven ground.
- Visual acuity as needed to inspect loads.
