Patent & Trademark Attorney




Job Summary:

The Patent and Trademark Attorney will assist clients with intellectual property management and protection including drafting and submitting patent and trademark applications and litigating matters related to patent, trademark, and copyright infringement.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides legal advice and representation to individuals and businesses seeking patent, trademark, or copyright protection.
  • Evaluates viability of patent and/or trademark requests; completes and files trademark, service mark, patent, and copyright registrations and applications.
  • Evaluates evidence in infringement or dilution cases.
  • Prepares and files briefs, motions, and other necessary judicial pleadings.
  • Manages and/or participates in litigation of cases involving intellectual property disputes.
  • Interviews and deposes witnesses and further facilitates the discovery process.
  • Maintains knowledge of scientific, technological, and legal developments including completion continuing legal education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in a field of study that meets the scientific and technical training prescribed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) required.
  • Juris doctor or equivalent from an accredited law school required.
  • Active license to practice law and/or membership in state Bar.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
