Job Summary:
The Transit System Supervisor oversees and monitors daily activities on the assigned shift to ensure timely, safe, and efficient transit operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Hires and trains departmental drivers.
- Oversees the daily workflow, schedules, and routes of the department.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Communicates driving assignments to drivers during each shift.
- Maintains constant contact with buses; ensures communications from public, police, and municipal entities or offices are provided to bus drivers.
- Responds appropriately to accidents and other emergency situations.
- Oversees compliance with traffic and safety regulations.
- Ensures vehicles comply with safety standards and are in working order.
- Builds and maintains positive working relationships with customers; addresses complaints and works to resolve them quickly.
- Prepares reports related to system services, costs, payroll, work hours, miles logged, expenditures, fuel use, maintenance, and overall progress.
- Participates in the development of long-range plans and goals.
- Ensures departmental and driver compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules, ordinances, statutes, and regulations.
- Operates a bus when no other drivers are available.
- Assists with creation of departmental budget; ensures proper use and implementation of budgetary funds.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelors degree in Transportation or Logistics highly preferred.
- At least three years of related work experience with a proven ability to schedule and manage others highly preferred.
- Class B Commercial Drivers License with excellent driving record highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry, balance, bend, crouch, and kneel to carry work-related supplies and equipment and to inspect vehicles.
