Job Summary:
The Umpire will maintain standards of play at sporting events, ensure rules are followed, and determine penalties for infractions according to established regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Studies and understands game rules that apply to a variety of sports.
- Judges gameplay during sporting events to award points and decide results.
- Observes gameplay closely, makes calls based on the application of game rules, and assesses any required penalties according to established regulations.
- Ensures teams follow all safety regulations.
- Monitors times related to the event such as start and stop times, elapsed times, or race times; ensures time requirements are followed precisely and starts and stops gameplay as needed.
- When available, consults with other umpires and/or playback screens to make a final call on a contested play.
- Resolves complaints or rule infraction claims from participants.
- Examines and verifies the credentials of sporting event participants.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable game, rules, and regulation.

- Excellent time management and basic math skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Sports Management or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in the game highly preferred.
- Current licensure or certification if/as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Employment is seasonal and requires irregular hours and some holidays.
