SHRM Statement on U.S. Government Shutdown
SHRM is a nonpartisan trade and membership association representing HR professionals and business executives. Our policy, not politics principle means that we support ideas to improve the workplace, regardless of party origination.
As we watch the current budget standoff with increasing concern, we call on Congress and the administration to put people over politics and come to an agreement that will continue to fund government operations.
The anticipated shutdown will have an immense impact on our 325,000 members, the 235 million workers they serve and the workplaces that are economic engines in our communities.
We are also reminded of the importance of civility in all workplaces‚ including the Congress—and of working together to advance the needs of work, workers and workplaces across the country. Civility is essential for effective governance. SHRM remains steadfast in our commitment to advancing nonpartisan public policies through our belief in Policy, Not Politics.
