As we head into the holidays, here is a song with HR in mind written to the tune of “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.”
Human resources got run over this year
By quiet quitters, firings and layoffs,
FMLA, court rulings, and union action.
No wonder you're feelin' shell-shocked!
For a third year COVID had you reelin'
With testing mandates 'n' fake vaccine cards.
It's no wonder you were simply feelin'
Burned out 'n' ready to hit the bars.
HR got flattened this year,
Expected to do more but with so much less.
As always, you went into high gear.
It's no wonder you're feelin' so stressed.
When I saw my HR pro Christmas morning,
Sobbing into her eggnog by the tree,
It broke my heart just somethin' awful
To see that heartfelt misery.
But I believe in that old elf Santa,
And I believe in human resources, too.
Our orgs couldn't run without it
And you doing all the things you do!
So have yourself one more cookie,
Put your feet up, watch a movie … maybe two.
Just be glad this year is over,
And know SHRM is always there for you.
