Job Summary:
The Labor Relations Mediator will work to reconcile labor relations matters including grievances, contracts, and other related issues.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Advises all involved parties in a labor relations dispute with the goal of reaching a fair and amicable resolution that satisfies all parties needs.
- Applies knowledge of business, legal, and industry best practices to help involved parties reach an agreement.
- Works efficiently and promptly such that wage loss, interruption of business operations, ill feelings, and mistrust are minimized and mitigated.
- Investigates and interviews appropriate staff and conducts necessary research to verify pertinent facts.
- Actively listens to all sides of a disagreement; seeks understanding of undisputed facts, identifies areas of mutual agreement, and suggests possible areas for compromise.
- If mediation fails, suggests and arranges for the matter to proceed to arbitration.
- Supervises voting and other balloting procedures for the ratification of labor agreements.
- Performs other related duties, as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Superior communication and negotiation skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to see multiple facets of a dispute.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Thorough understanding of labor law, industry practices and social policies that may be pertinent to the business.
- Ability to remain impartial when listening to the facts of a grievance or dispute.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Masters degree in Business Administration required, law degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or a related field required.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
