Job Summary:

The Proofreader will identify, mark, and correct grammatical, typographical, style, and composition errors in written content.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Reviews proof copies of content; identifies and marks grammatical, typographical, style, and composition errors for revision.
• Ensures consistent style and formatting in accordance with the organizations style guide.
• Ensures accurate spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
• Reviews headings, captions, pagination, copyright, and other metadata for accuracy and consistency.
• Indicates required revisions using established method, which may include handwritten changes using proofreading symbols and/or digital markup in selected software.
• Reviews tables of contents, indices, and other reference materials for accuracy and formatting.
• Delivers commented proof to editor, writer, or other staff for review and revision.
• Performs final proof; ensures revisions are incorporated as intended.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Thorough understanding of grammar, spelling, and usage.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or related content management software.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in English, Communications, or related field required.
• Previous related experience or demonstration of skills required.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Visual acuity to read printed copies for extended periods of time.
